MOSS HOUSE

Located in a rural setting, MOSS House was designed to bring the clients' friends and family together in a living and cozy environment. As such, the single-story building is thoughtfully designed with materials that blend into the terrain, reducing the environmental impact of the new home. The designed volumes give individuality to a residence conceived as a summer cottage, while maintaining a connection to the stunning location and views of the thicket.

Engineered on one level, the house was created by a high contrasting relationship to the topography. The terrain was resolved by creating a large and open terrace, the oblong volume of the building and its fusion with the surroundings, and providing a constant face to the surrounding landscape.

MOSS House has an open social area through the entrance hall, which is joined by the private areas of the hosts and their future children. Directly above the master bedrooms, a mezzanine level forms a sleeping block designed for children but capable of accommodating up to four adults. The spaces are above the first level but are spacious and uncluttered, with large panoramic glazing in the living room providing natural daylight. The attic is accessed via an unconventional technical staircase to provide an alternative, interesting route down to the living space.

The landscape design is simple but effective, featuring hanging birch trees and raspberry bushes that embed the volume in an established rural setting among mature trees. Neutral and light tones of the exterior coverings and furnishings bring harmony and dialog with the overall identity of the residence.

Situated on a long narrow plot, this project expands onto an already majestic terrace, responding to the slope of the site by incorporating a series of flowing internal and external level changes to the new extension.
